In-Patient Chemo

 Dan had his "short week" chemo yesterday.  Dr. Khan wanted Dan to take home the 5FU ball and Dan said NO.  Dan needs to see his cardiologist FIRST to make sure she adjusts any medication to help ensure that he will not get those same heart episodes he received last time which ended up him in the hospital. Dr. Khan should have realized that Dan needed to see the cardiologist before he received that chemo. 😡  Thank God Dan speaks up for himself.

As it so happens, Dan had an appointment this morning with the cardiologist.  She was only able to adjust his meds slightly.  Any more adjustments would result in his blood pressure getting too low.  And she told Dan that it's not 100% that it will avoid getting those heart episodes.  Every time it affects his heart, it damages it.  That is not good.

When I got home today, I asked Dan and wondered why Dr. Khan didn't call to find out why Dan refused the 5FU.  Well, he called tonight as it so happens.

The cancer isn't shrinking after months of the other chemo infusions. Dan needs the 5FU to help shrink it and his cardiologist said the same thing.  Dr. Khan suggested to Dan that he receive it next Wednesday when he gets chemo again.  That is Dan's "long" week of chemo which is 3 hours (sometimes it's 4).  He also suggested that Dan receive the 5FU as an in-patient.  Thankfully, Dan agreed.  Sooooo, he will be in the hospital for two days (maybe more depending on his reaction).  I won't sleep good during those nights.  I never sleep good when Dan isn't home.  😔 He will be at Rochester General if you wish to visit.  Just text him first to see if he is up for it.  It sucks that he will be in the hospital when it will be so nice out.

On a good note, we reached our out-of-pocket maximum deductible so everything will be paid for through the end of April.  And as of 5/1, Medicaid kicks in which is also free. THANK GOD.

Dan continues to mentally be in a good place and we are just living day by day.

Meanwhile, we will enjoy a nice Easter dinner on Sunday with his sister Lori. 🧡

    Praying so hard for a successful treatment this time. Hang in there my brother, be strong and please try not to stress over this treatment. I love you both and I am here if you need anything. Confusing Day

Two appointments today and the roads were crappy! Dan had to get a blood draw today. Proteins are high again so there is one thing he cannot get tomorrow with his chemo.  Dr. Khan mentioned having Dan see a kidney doctor because of this but the bloodwork for the kidneys were fine.  But then he said he thought it was because of the medication that they had him stop at the hospital weeks ago and Dan will need to take again.  SO CONFUSING. Weight 190. He lost a few pounds from two weeks ago which isn't bad but our scale had him lower because he didn't have shoes and clothes on.  His blood pressure wasn't bad at 134/69.  That's good.  And all of the other bloodwork was good. We asked Dr. Khan some questions.  After the appointment we are to go see the cardi-oncologist for the heart ultrasound.  See what she had to say before seeing if Dan was to get chemo tomorrow.  I didn't know this but Dan was receiving 3 chemo's every two weeks not 2 chemo's.  It was the 5FU

Looking Good

Dan received his weekly chemo on Wednesday.  Bloodwork looked pretty good and the oncologist, Dr. Khan, felt around and says the mass seems smaller.  Dan will get another CT scan on March 28th.  And he gained almost 4lbs in a week!  He now weights 180.6 pounds. I reminded Dr. Khan that we STILL do not have a weekly chemo schedule and it is becoming very frustrating.  Later that day, we finally received it.  Ridiculous.   He continues to get a little stronger each week.  It was so refreshing to get out of the house on Sunday and we actually went grocery shopping together.  Dan walked down each aisle and even helped load the groceries into the vehicle.  I so enjoyed doing that with him and had missed it.  I keep encouraging him to do an activity every day and to use the small hand weights to help gain is strength and keep up his energy.  And I love how he still has a great appetite. Such Support!

 Dan continues to receive chemo every week and is doing really well.   We are eager for the CT scan on Monday and find out the results on Tuesday. Dan has been approved for Social Security Disability and Medicaid.  ALL HIS MEDICAL WILL BE FREE WITH NO PREMIUMS and renew every year! This was weighing heavily on us as we were trying to determine how we were going to continue to pay for our monthly bills and his treatments after his insurance ended at work.  Now we can just solely concentrate on his health. We had a surprise visit the other day from one of Dan's coworkers/friend.  He wanted to see how Dan was doing and to drop this off for him.  It's from everyone in his department and the kids he used to drive around.  And that is his bus, #3.  Dan loved this gift!
