CT Scan

Thanks to the heart doctor last week and the cocktail of drugs she prescribed, Dan didn't have any heart issues after receiving chemo like he did previously.  However, he also didn't receive the 5FU chemo this time...only the shot of it through his port like he did previous times.

Dan had his CT scan today.  The reason why Dan was in so much pain was because the cancer grew in his liver.  It was previously 13cm and now it is 15cm.  We thought this was the case as this was the reason he had pain like that before and how this all began. 😞 And not only that, he has some fluid buildup between the lung and the chest and also within the lung which moves with gravity depending on his position.  These are the reasons why he clears his throat every now and then.  Everything else was either normal or nothing to worry about it.

On Monday, he goes for a heart ultrasound (which we were supposed to get last week but they didn't have record of that so they gave him an EKG...unreal).  They want to see in more detail how his heart is doing and probably take a closer look at the valve that is twisted (birth defect).

Dr. Khan also wants Dan to continue with the chemo drug 5FU as that is his best chance of reducing the cancer.  He may try with the pills instead of going home with the ball.  Meanwhile, Dan will be receiving chemo each week.  They still had him down for every two weeks.  I swear, NO ONE is talking to each other.  The one hand is never talking to the other!  It's so nerve-wracking.  Dr. Khan was going to call the cancer center after he got off the phone with Dan to let them know they need to update his schedule.

Dan is still experiencing some pain and discomfort and once in awhile will need a pain med.  But not round the clock like he was the last 2 days.  He looked better today and feels better than he did.

I continue to be thankful to the people that surround us, for the support, love and prayers.

I'm very grateful to my ABR employer and family.  Special thanks to Jody & Matt for allowing me to have the flexibility needed to care for Dan.  💖

This journey is a tough one but having you all surround us makes it easier to get through.

    Thank you for the update. I really hope that they get their shit together, I don't know how you and Dan keep it together with these people. I am glad he is not in so much pain right now, and that he tolerated the chemo. At least his heart Dr. helped him. Confusing Day

Two appointments today and the roads were crappy! Dan had to get a blood draw today. Proteins are high again so there is one thing he cannot get tomorrow with his chemo.  Dr. Khan mentioned having Dan see a kidney doctor because of this but the bloodwork for the kidneys were fine.  But then he said he thought it was because of the medication that they had him stop at the hospital weeks ago and Dan will need to take again.  SO CONFUSING. Weight 190. He lost a few pounds from two weeks ago which isn't bad but our scale had him lower because he didn't have shoes and clothes on.  His blood pressure wasn't bad at 134/69.  That's good.  And all of the other bloodwork was good. We asked Dr. Khan some questions.  After the appointment we are to go see the cardi-oncologist for the heart ultrasound.  See what she had to say before seeing if Dan was to get chemo tomorrow.  I didn't know this but Dan was receiving 3 chemo's every two weeks not 2 chemo's.  It was the 5FU

Looking Good

Dan received his weekly chemo on Wednesday.  Bloodwork looked pretty good and the oncologist, Dr. Khan, felt around and says the mass seems smaller.  Dan will get another CT scan on March 28th.  And he gained almost 4lbs in a week!  He now weights 180.6 pounds. I reminded Dr. Khan that we STILL do not have a weekly chemo schedule and it is becoming very frustrating.  Later that day, we finally received it.  Ridiculous.   He continues to get a little stronger each week.  It was so refreshing to get out of the house on Sunday and we actually went grocery shopping together.  Dan walked down each aisle and even helped load the groceries into the vehicle.  I so enjoyed doing that with him and had missed it.  I keep encouraging him to do an activity every day and to use the small hand weights to help gain is strength and keep up his energy.  And I love how he still has a great appetite.  Dan continues to receive chemo every week and is doing really well.   We are eager for the CT scan on Monday and find out the results on Tuesday. Dan has been approved for Social Security Disability and Medicaid.  ALL HIS MEDICAL WILL BE FREE WITH NO PREMIUMS and renew every year! This was weighing heavily on us as we were trying to determine how we were going to continue to pay for our monthly bills and his treatments after his insurance ended at work.  Now we can just solely concentrate on his health. We had a surprise visit the other day from one of Dan's coworkers/friend.  He wanted to see how Dan was doing and to drop this off for him.  It's from everyone in his department and the kids he used to drive around.  And that is his bus, #3.  Dan loved this gift! We thank you so much.  Really made our day. 😀 Then in the mail today we received a beautiful card from the Johnson's and a picture of one of their boys (Marcus) getting on Dan's school bus.
